The Chicago Fire Dept. said the blaze started in a two-and-a-half story, multi-unit apartment building, then spread to a two-story home next door, as well as multiple buildings behind the apartment building. In all, seven buildings were affected.

Flames were seen shooting from multiple buildings and thick black smoke could be seen from miles away.

More than 100 firefighters managed to get the blaze under control in about an hour. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials said it appeared to have started in a rear porch area of the apartment building before spreading to the other buildings.
