Donald Trump has caused controversy with his comments after being awarded Time Person of The Year.

At an Iowa rally on Thursday night, he said: "They used to call it ‘Man of the Year,’ but they can’t do that anymore, so they call it ‘person.’ They want to be politically correct. That’s OK."

Then, he brought it up again on Friday at a Louisiana rally.

He asked: "Who'd rather have it the 'Man of the Year?"

The president elect then asked the women of the audience if they would rather be Person of The Year, Man of The Year or Woman of The Year.

He concluded: "All the women want it to be 'Man of the Year.'"

Mr Trump said: "That could be why the magazine business isn't so great, right?"

Time made the award gender-neutral in 1999, even though a few women had won the award before that year.

He wasn't particularly happy with the title of the issue announcing his award - The Divided States of America.
