Bournemouth 3-3 Arsenal Premier League Match Results and Highlight

From 3-0 down with 20 minutes left to 3-3 Arsenal mount stunning comeback.

Giroud headed the equaliser and was involved in each of Arsenal's three goals against Bournemouth
Arsenal completed a dramatic comeback at Bournemouth as they rescued a point in injury time having fallen 3-0 behind.

The Gunners looked destined for a third away league defeat in a row before a late rally that began with a diving Alexis Sanchez header and gathered momentum when a stunning Lucas Perez left-footed volley reduced the gap to a single goal.

Bournemouth went down to 10 men when Simon Francis was sent off for a challenge on Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal capitalised as Olivier Giroud headed a 92nd-minute equaliser.

The home side had overwhelmed the Gunners early on and taken the lead when Charlie Daniels cut inside Hector Bellerin and stroked a shot past on-rushing keeper Petr Cech.

Callum Wilson scored a penalty to extend Bournemouth's lead and Ryan Fraser sent a shot through Cech's legs for the Cherries' third before the hour mark.

But the hosts buckled under Arsenal's late pressure as Arsene Wenger's side moved eight points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, who play Tottenham on Wednesday.

Match Highlights

How the comeback unfolded

Arsenal had produced a feeble display for 70 minutes and were second best in the face of Bournemouth's energy and desire but that all changed when Sanchez headed in at the far post following Giroud's flick-on.

Sanchez has scored 10 goals and assisted three more in 10 Premier League away appearances this season
The momentum of the match changed and five minutes later Giroud clipped a lovely ball to substitute Perez and he sent an angled volley inside the far post.

Francis' sending-off helped Arsenal, although Cherries boss Eddie Howe felt it was a "harsh" decision by referee Michael Oliver.

Mixed emotions for Arsenal

Arsenal have been accused of lacking the character to maintain a title challenge in recent seasons and they did little to change that perception before Sanchez's goal.

They were continually second best to the home side and frustrations rose to the surface in the first half.

Sanchez and Ramsey exchanged angry words at 2-0 down, while Giroud showed his annoyance when Shkodran Mustafi failed to find him with a pass that went harmlessly out of play.

That they regrouped in such thrilling manner was doubtless a relief but not one that entirely satisfied goalscorer Giroud.

"I'm pleased to help the team by scoring the equaliser but I'm still disappointed," said the Frenchman.

"It's nice to come back but the way we played at the end, that made me think we should have done better. At least we came back, showed great mental strength and I will take it."

Narrow miss for Bournemouth

On this date in 2009, boss Eddie Howe was taking caretaker charge of his first match at Bournemouth - who were then second from bottom in League Two.

Success with the Dorset side as they won promotion to League One saw Howe lured away by Burnley, before he returned in October 2012 to complete the club's transformation with two more promotions in three seasons.

It is a mark of the turnaround he has instigated that he and his side were left bitterly disappointed at failing to avenge their defeat at Emirates Stadium in November.

The Cherries' 3-1 defeat at Arsenal was harsh on them and they looked more than capable of making amends for the majority of this game as the Gunners struggled to deal with their attacking 4-4-2 formation.

Even with the Arsenal comeback under way, Howe's men had a chance to go 4-2 up when Dan Gosling turned superbly in the visitors' area only to shoot well wide of Cech's goal.

A point keeps the Cherries ninth in the table.

What they said:

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "At the start we suffered from the quality of Bournemouth. One team had over three days to recover and on top of that we suffered at the back.

"It was a physical test but we came back into the game and we showed we are mentally strong. I am happy to play every day but only if our opponent has done the same."

Read more from Wenger here.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe: "It's a strange one for us. At 3-0 up you hope the game is over but you can't underestimate the quality of Arsenal and as soon as they got the first goal the game changed.

"We didn't see the game out in an effective manner from our perspective but you have to praise their resilience."

What next?

It's FA Cup third-round action for both these teams in their next outings with Bournemouth at Millwall at 15:00 GMT on Saturday, 7 January and Arsenal at Preston for a 17:30 kick-off on the same day.

Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool EPL Match Results & Highlights (Bournemouth fightback stuns Liverpool)

Ryan Fraser was Bournemouth's second-half hero, with a hand in their first three goals - including scoring their second
Bournemouth completed one of the comebacks of the season to beat Liverpool for the first time in a sensational Premier League game.

Sadio Mane scored the Reds' opener when he controlled Emre Can's ball over the top, held off Nathan Ake and poked home.

The visitors looked in control when Divock Origi went past Artur Boruc and curled home their second from a narrow angle.

Match Highlights

Bournemouth brought on Ryan Fraser in the 55th minute and that proved to be the turning point of the game. Seconds later James Milner brought him down in the area and Callum Wilson scored the penalty.

Can put the Reds 3-1 up with a 20-yard curling effort but Fraser scored his first Premier League goal when he tucked home after Callum Wilson's cross had hit the heels of Benik Afobe.

Centre-back Steve Cook got Bournemouth level when he controlled Fraser's cross, swivelled and volleyed home.

Arsenal 3-1 Bournemouth EPL Match Results and Highlights (Sanchez double helps Arsenal up to fourth)

Theo Walcott heads in for Arsenal against Bournemouth

Arsenal ended a run of three successive draws as Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Theo Walcott once to secure victory over Bournemouth.

The pressure was on the Gunners after rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City won on Saturday, and they were gifted the lead when Steve Cook's poor backpass allowed Sanchez to calmly sidefoot past keeper Adam Federici.

But Callum Wilson equalised with a penalty after referee Mike Jones judged the striker was fouled by Nacho Monreal and, against a rattled home side, Bournemouth missed two good chances when an unmarked Adam Smith headed over before Brad Smith had an angled shot saved.

Arsenal almost restored their lead when a Sanchez strike came off the crossbar but Walcott did score when he headed in a Monreal cross.

Monreal escaped conceding another penalty when a Simon Francis pass struck him on the arm in the area before keeper Petr Cech made a crucial save from Benik Afobe.

Sanchez made sure of the win when he slotted in an Olivier Giroud cross, moving the Gunners three points behind top-flight leaders Chelsea and two shy of Liverpool and City.

Sanchez and Walcott give Arsenal edge

Walcott celebrated the birth of his second child on Friday and he marked the occasion with his sixth league goal of the campaign, which is already one more than he managed in the whole of last season.

The winger's tally is his best in the top flight since 2012-13, when he scored 14, and he helped provide a much-needed win for Arsene Wenger's side as they extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 games.

Arsenal had struggled to produce their best and most fluent football in some recent high-profile games, having drawn with Tottenham, Manchester United and Paris St-Germain in their last three outings, and, at times, looked less than secure against the Cherries.

However, even though the Gunners - with 51.8% of the ball - did not dominate possession as much as they are used to, they did show signs of a return to form, especially in the second half.

Sanchez's work-rate and threat in front of goal are key to their prospects. He ended a run of four Arsenal games without a goal as he took his league tally to eight for the season.

"We started to click again, even though it was in patches," said Walcott.

Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur Match Highlight (Tottenham held to draw at Bournemouth) #BOUTOT

Tottenham are unbeaten in their opening nine Premier League games of the season
Tottenham missed the chance to move top of the Premier League - at least for a few hours - as they were held to a goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Bournemouth nearly took a shock early lead when Charlie Daniels' close-range effort following a corner was brilliantly saved by Hugo Lloris, the Spurs keeper reacting to deflect the ball onto the bar with his legs.

Spurs' Erik Lamela then hit the crossbar at the other end, and though the visitors raised their game after the break, the Cherries held firm, with keeper Artur Boruc keeping out Dele Alli and Danny Rose, while Bournemouth substitute Benik Afobe headed just over late on.

Meanwhile, referee Craig Pawson upset the home fans who felt Lamela should have been shown a second yellow card, while substitute Moussa Sissoko was not punished for an apparent elbow into Harry Arter's face.

Pawson then waved away late Bournemouth appeals for a penalty when Jack Wilshere went down after a challenge by Jan Vertonghen.

Press for success - but give no quarter

Both managers had praised their opponent's style of play in the build-up and it was no surprise when the game began at a high tempo with both sides attacking freely.

But Bournemouth showed more steel than the side who lost 5-1 to a Harry Kane-inspired Spurs this time last year, with Arter particularly relishing the physical battle, epitomised by a perfectly timed tackle - hard but fair - on Victor Wanyama.

While Tottenham shaded possession, the frenzied nature of the game and the visitors' determination to stop Bournemouth counter-attacking at pace saw Lamela, Vertonghen, Alli and Rose all enter Pawson's notebook before half-time for fouls.

Man of the match - Harry Arter (Bournemouth)

Lamela was perhaps fortunate not to receive a second caution before the break for a challenge no better than those that had earned earlier bookings - minutes after he had struck the bar with a curling shot.

Meanwhile, television replays did not show Spurs' Sissoko in a good light as he clashed with an incensed Arter on the touchline and appeared to throw an elbow.

What they said:

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "I am more proud of the players today than after winning 6-1 last week against Hull. We went toe to toe with an outstanding team and it was a game of real quality. We did not deserve to lose it, we had good moments too. We managed to nullify most of their threat."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "If we want to be contenders, we need to win games like these.

"It was a very competitive game, they were ready to compete and it was tough. We managed the whole game, but if you don't score it is difficult to win. We fought loads and it is one point more and a clean sheet."

What's next?

Bournemouth take the long trip up north to face Middlesbrough in the league next Saturday (kick-off 15:00 BST), while Tottenham host champions Leicester at the same time.

Manchester City 4-0 Bournemouth Highlights (Superb Man City put four unreplied goals past Bournemouth)

Sterling has scored three goals so far this season
A scintillating Manchester City made it eight wins out of eight in all competitions this season as they easily beat Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium.

Kevin de Bruyne put the league leaders in front with a low free-kick under the wall after a Jack Wilshere foul.

City were dominant and two sweeping counter-attacks led to Kelechi Iheanacho and Raheem Sterling tap-ins.

Ilkay Gundogan calmly slotted in a fourth but City had Nolito sent off late on for an attempted head-butt.

The Spaniard was involved in a clash with Adam Smith and, while any contact with his head looked slight, referee Jon Moss had little option but to dismiss the winger.

Deadly De Bruyne

City's passing and movement was a joy to watch and the influential De Bruyne was at the heart of their play.

The Belgian midfielder, who scored in the win over against Manchester United last week, played behind main striker Iheanacho and caused Bournemouth all sorts of problems as he was involved in all his side's goals before going off to a standing ovation.

De Bruyne's absence for two months last season was a huge setback for City as they dropped from second to fourth in the Premier League, and from three points behind leaders Leicester to 12.

The 25-year-old's intelligence, running with the ball and vision made him a constant threat and his link-up play with Sterling, Nolito and Iheanacho left Bournemouth bemused.

"The performance from Kevin was terrific, amazing," said City boss Pep Guardiola. "He is on another level. He is a fantastic player and helps us a lot."

Jose Mourinho made a winning Premier League start as Manchester United manager with a comprehensive opening victory at Bournemouth.

Juan Mata, who was substituted after coming on in last week's Community Shield, opened the scoring with a tap-in after Simon Francis' error.

Wayne Rooney headed the second before Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his United league debut with a goal from 25 yards.

Adam Smith scored a consolation goal for the Cherries.

United were without world-record £89m signing Paul Pogba through suspension, while midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan started on the bench, with Mata preferred.

Watch the match highlights Below

Can Mourinho bring back the fear factor?

As starts go, this was a highly satisfactory day for United - the Mourinho era began with a solid victory at a ground where they came unstuck under Louis van Gaal last season.

United started slowly and did not register a shot on target until a Rooney effort produced a comfortable save from Artur Boruc in the 27th minute.

Yet it was job done once the visitors opened the scoring with a messy goal and added two more in the space of five second-half minutes to put them in a commanding position.

Mata looked unhappy when he was replaced 30 minutes after coming on at Wembley against Leicester last Sunday but the Spaniard was all smiles as he got Mourinho's reign up and running.

Boruc made a fine block from Mata after Francis' under-hit back-pass but the rebound bounced off Francis into the former Chelsea player's path and he tapped home.

United's second goal was also down to some good fortune - Rooney was well positioned to head home after Anthony Martial's mis-hit shot fell perfectly for his captain.

Ibrahimovic was denied by a one-handed Boruc save but the Swede made it 3-0 with a drilled low finish from outside the area to leave Mourinho smiling.

Ibrahimovic conjures another debut goal

Ibrahimovic continued his remarkable record of marking debuts with a goal.

The 34-year-old Swede has now scored on his first league starts in England, Italy, Spain and France, and in the Champions League.

Any concerns the frenetic pace in English football's top-flight might not suit Ibrahimovic were dispelled with his well-executed finish to follow a goal at Wembley last week.

It was his third goal in total for his new club after scoring on his first appearance in a United shirt in a friendly against Galatasaray as well as the winner in the Community Shield against Leicester.

Mourinho's oldest signing of the summer could turn out to be his shrewdest.

How did the new players perform?

Bournemouth:

Jordon Ibe - Bournemouth's club-record £15m signing from Liverpool looked a threat coming in off the right and driving through the middle. He also had a goal-bound shot blocked after twisting and turning inside the United area.

Lewis Cook - The 19-year-old midfield signing from Leeds United did not lack confidence and showed enough promise to suggest he could be a success in the Premier League.

Manchester United:

Eric Bailly - Solid league debut and made his presence felt very early on with a no-nonsense challenge on Joshua King.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Took a while to get going but, when he did, the former Paris St-Germain striker made an impact. Ibrahimovic was not afraid to go in where it hurts and was involved in an early clash of heads with Simon Francis while attempting to connect with Antonio Valencia's cross.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Came on for the final 15 minutes with the points in the bag. Replaced Juan Mata, who surprisingly started in place of the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
More signings for Bournemouth?

Eddie Howe has been one of the busiest top-flight managers in the transfer market this summer, having brought in six major signings.

And while the Cherries made it hard for United in the first half before Francis' error, they were exposed by ruthless opponents after the break.

There is still work for Howe to do on his team and his next addition looks like being Marc Wilson, the Stoke City defender, for £2m.

Bournemouth conceded 67 goals last season - more than relegated Newcastle - and they needed Boruc at his best to keep United from a more handsome win.

That needs addressing if Bournemouth are to stay away from the bottom three this season.

What's next?

Bournemouth look to bounce back when they provide the opposition for West Ham's first Premier League game at London Stadium on 21 August (16:00 BST). United welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Friday.(20:00 BST).
