Europa League full draw: Man Utd face Saint-Etienne, Spurs meet Gent

Mourinho is a two-time winner of the Champions League but has never won the Europa League

Manchester United will face French side Saint-Etienne in the Europa League last 32, while Tottenham Hotspur meet Belgian team Gent.

United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to face older brother Florentin, who plays for the eighth-placed Ligue 1 side.

Spurs have never met Gent, who finished third in the Belgian top-flight last season, in a competitive fixture.

The first legs will be played on Thursday, 16 February, with the return legs on Thursday, 23 February.

The two Premier League clubs could not be drawn together as teams from the same nation are kept apart.

Tottenham, along with the other seeded teams, will be at home in the second leg.

Spurs were seeded after dropping down from the Champions League, while United were unseeded after finishing second in Group A.

But Jose Mourinho's side are still favourites to win the competition with most bookmakers.

The Europa League final will be held at Stockholm's Friends Arena on 24 May.

Manchester United reached the Europa League knockout stages by beating Zorya Luhansk as Henrikh Mkhitaryan struck a fine first goal for the club.

The Red Devils dominated in the Ukrainian city of Odessa, but long-range efforts from Wayne Rooney and Paul Pogba were their best moments despite having 76% of first-half possession.

But Mkhitaryan, who has now started three games in a row, dribbled from halfway to apply a cool finish after the break.

A key save from Sergio Romero maintained the lead before Zlatan Ibrahimovic raced clear to slot home as United progressed behind Fenerbahce, who won at Feyenoord.

Match Highlight 

United ground out a first win away from home in the Europa League this season on a pitch he described as "difficult" leading up to the fixture.

Though their final ball was often slack - leading to some visible Mourinho frustration in the first half - they stuck to the task, none more so than Mkhitaryan, who showed balance and poise to create his goal.

Man Of The Match

United struggled to create clear openings until Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the game up with his solo goal. In tough conditions, he made a key difference on the night.

His haul of a goal and two assists in his run of three starts begs the question as to why Mourinho has not used him regularly since a £26m summer move. But United fans are starting to see the type of quality which saw him named Bundesliga players' player of the season ahead of his move to Old Trafford.

More positives arrive in the fact players such as David De Gea and Anthony Martial were rested - United face Tottenham on Sunday - while Ibrahimovic's form is gathering momentum - his late finish was his sixth goal in seven matches.

Paul Pogba saw a lot of the ball as United had 71% possession on the night

The sight of central defender Eric Bailly completing a fixture for the first time since October will also please Mourinho. The Ivorian - out with a knee injury since October - looked composed, decisive and even shook off a nasty collision to continue late on.

Wayne Rooney became Manchester United's record European goalscorer as they beat Feyenoord to keep their Europa League fate in their hands.

Wayne Rooney starred for Manchester United as they kept their Europa League campaign alive with a 4-0 win over Feyenoord on Thursday night.

Defeat at Old Trafford would have seen United knocked out of the competition at the group stage, but Rooney struck in the 36th minute to put them in front and become the club's leading goalscorer in Europe with 39 - one ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Manchester United captain then superbly set up Juan Mata for their second after the break, before former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones put through his own net and substitute Jesse Lingard netted in stoppage time to seal the points for Jose Mourinho's side.

This match is Jose Mourinho's biggest win as United boss.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS 

A draw or win at Zorya Luhansk in the final Group A game on Thursday, 8 December would take United into the last 32.

The result leaves United second in Group A on nine points, and knowing a draw in their final game at Zorya in two weeks will be enough to see them through to the last 32.

It was United who started the stronger as Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick went close in the early stages, but it was a former Liverpool man who nearly gave Feyenoord the lead after 26 minutes.

Making his first return to Old Trafford in four years, Dirk Kuyt saw his effort kept out by Sergio Romero, starting between the sticks ahead of David de Gea, seconds after the Argentina international had denied Nicolai Jorgenson's strike from 10 yards.

It was a great response from Rooney after a tough week off the pitch, with the goal also moving him to within one of Sir Bobby Charlton's club goals record of 249.

Mkhitaryan takes rare chance to impress

The goal eased the tension around Old Trafford and United started to play superbly, especially after the break when Henrikh Mkhitaryan came into his own on just his second start for the club.

United's £26m summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan was impressive on only his second start for the club.

Mourinho has said the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who had previously managed only 134 minutes for the club, needs time to adapt to the "intensity and aggression" of the English game.

Admittedly against weaker opposition, he looked the part with an all-action performance playing centrally behind Ibrahimovic.

He linked up well with team-mates, and would have got on the end of a through ball from Rooney had the England captain not overhit it, after a slick one-pass move between the pair.

One of the game's outstanding moments came when Mkhitaryan ran from his own half, taking on several Feyenoord defenders, before going down under pressure from Jens Toornstra. The Dutch champions were fortunate the referee did not give a free-kick, which would also have resulted in a red card.

In the end, the 27-year-old managed six shots, including blocked efforts, and came off, alongside Rooney, to a standing ovation after 82 minutes.

The big question now is will the Armenian start against West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday?

Manchester United 4 -1 Fenerbahce Match Highlights (Pogba stars as Man Utd thrash Fenerbahce)

Pogba scored the second and third goals of his Manchester United career

Paul Pogba scored twice as Manchester United coasted to a comfortable victory over Fenerbahce and moved second in Europa League Group A.

With Wayne Rooney back in the team, United did not create much before the Turkish side gave away two cheap penalties.

World record signing Pogba smashed in after Simon Kjaer fouled Juan Mata before Anthony Martial converted from Sener Ozbayrakli's push.

Pogba guided a superb curling shot home from 20 yards with Jesse Lingard drilling home from similar distance to put the game out of sight after the break.

Match Highlights

The second half was played out in an exhibition atmosphere and Robin van Persie's late consolation was applauded heartily as he met a low cross and marked his return to his former side with a goal.

Manchester United are level with Feyenoord on six points, two clear of Fenerbahce at the halfway point in Group A.

Rooney returns to the scene of his debut

Rooney's inclusion - after being named as a substitute for United's previous four games - gave the 30-year-old a chance to show he is as much a part of United's future as it's past.

Fenerbahce had been the opponents at the very start of his United career when he scored the first three of his 246 goals for the club with a debut hat-trick.

However England's top-scorer is a very different player from the 18-year-old that lit up Old Trafford on that night in 2004, and his best moments were in the build-up rather than finish of United's goals.

Often operating deep and wide, a clumsy attempt to control a pass from Juan Mata saw one one opening evaporate in an instant, but he then robbed a Fenerbahce defender to help set up Pogba's second and assisted Lingard's strike with a cushioned lay-off.

His leadership and maturity was also evident as he appeared to delegate penalty-taking to Pogba and help the Frenchman ease the pressure of his world record £89m fee.

Van Persie welcomed back

Van Persie's return also invoked fond memories for the Old Trafford faithful.

The Dutchman finished as the Premier League's top-scorer the last time United won the title in 2013, but, like the team as a whole, his form faded in the following two seasons before his move to Istanbul.

His name was chanted as he walked out for kick-off, he was cheered as he came across to take Fenerbache's corners and, after curling a long-range shot just wide, he turned in Emmanuel Emenike's cross to prompt an ovation from his former fans.

Liverpool 1-3 Sevilla Highlights (Coke and Gameiro guide Sevilla to third straight europa league win)

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool went into the Europa League final slightly favorites ahead of defending champions Sevilla and they got themselves a superb start with Sturridge scoring in first half after Liverpool dominated from the word go. They were more agile, pressed relentlessly but failed to add to scoreline which came back to haunt them as Sevilla put three past them in second half with Gameiro scoring just after the break while Coke added two in space of 6 minutes leaving Liverpool staring at second cup final defeat this season.

Sevilla found themselves a goal down in 35th minute when a superb strike by Sturridge outside of his foot found its way back in the net. But Sevilla had a plan and they executed it perfectly with a second half flourish. Top scorer Gameiro scored just after the break and Coke added two more to put Sevilla on their way to third consecutive Europa League title.

Liverpool 3-0 Villarreal Europa 2nd Leg Match Highlights (Sturridge and Lallana on target for Liverpool)

Liverpool has qualified for the final of 2016 Europa League after beating Villarreal 3-0 in what another magical night at Anfield. Liverpool will play Sevilla in the final in Basel on 18th May 2016.

Liverpool needed another great night at Anfield to qualify for the Europa League final as they hosted Villarreal in the second leg of their semifinal tie having lost the first leg at El Madrigal by 1-0 thanks to last minute goal. At anfield however, Liverpool fans turned up the head and after a moving tribute to “hillsbrough victims” Liverpool started the game brightly and took the lead as early as 6th minute to go level on aggregate. Sturridge scored in 63rd minute to put Liverpool in lead while Victor Ruiz sending off put Liverpool in commanding position with 20 minutes left to play.

Liverpool started in absolute superb and dominated the game from word go. They took the lead in 6th minute when after constant pressure in the box they scored when Firmino put in a low cross inside the box and Sturridge fail to poke home from close range but the ball took deflection off Bruno and went in the back of the net.

Europa League 2016 Semifinal 2nd Leg 

07′ 1 – 0 Bruno Soriano bundled home in his own net in 6th minute after Sturridge fail to connect the Firmino’s cross.

63′ 2 – 0 Daniel Sturridge scored with a neat finish to put Liverpool 2-1 ahead on aggregate.

70′ [ 2 Yellow/Red Card ] Victor Ruiz was sent off for his second bookable offense.

81′ 3 – 0 Adam Lallana poked home from close range to pretty much end the contest and put Liverpool in the final of 2016 Europa League.

Villarreal 1-0 Liverpool Match Highlights

After producing a magical night at Anfield Liverpool took on Villarreal in the 2016 Europa League semifinal first leg at El Madrigal and it turned out to be a snooze fest as both teams pretty much cancel each other out for best part of first hour. Villarreal had more possession and had couple of half chances. The game kept similar pattern in second half as both teams looked to be happy with a 0-0 draw but a late goal in injury time by Adrian Lopez ended what could have been a good result for Liverpool.
