Juventus 1-0 Roma Serie A Match Results and Highlights (Juventus equal record with victory over Roma)

DBliss Media
Gonzalo Higuain's goal was his 13th in all competitions this season
Gonzalo Higuain's superb first-half strike ensured a record-equalling victory for Juventus that extends their lead over Roma at the top of Serie A.

Higuain, 29, lashed home from 18 yards to secure Juve's 25th-straight home league win - matching a record they set between August 2013 and November 2014.

Juve now lead Roma by seven points after 17 games, to stay on course for a sixth-straight Serie A title triumph.

Match Highlights

Roma have now lost on their past six league visits to Juventus.

The Argentina forward's 10th league goal of the season, and third in two games, arrived in the 14th minute when he outmuscled Daniele de Rossi and ghosted past Kostas Manolas before hitting an unstoppable strike beyond Wojciech Szczesny.

Also on Saturday, third-placed AC Milan were held to a goalless draw at home to Atalanta, while Empoli pulled five points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Cagliari.

Genoa 3-1 Juventus Serie A Match Results & Highlights (Simeone stars as Genoa beat leaders Juve)

Giovanni Simeone has scored four goals in 11 games since joining Genoa this summer

Giovanni Simeone scored two early goals as mid-table Genoa stunned Serie A leaders Juventus.

Juve were wretched in the first half and trailed 3-0 inside 29 minutes.

Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego, turned in a third-minute opener after Gianluigi Buffon's triple save and headed home his second. Alex Sandro's own goal sealed the game.

Serie A Table

Juve ended with 10 men because of an injury to Dani Alves, before Miralem Pjanic struck a consolation free-kick.

Match Highlights

Juventus have day to forget

Leonardo Bonucci went off injured after half an hour, with Alves going off after all their three changes had been made
Alves, who was later diagnosed with a broken leg, was forced off after fellow defender Leonardo Bonucci suffered a game-ending injury in the first half, making a bad day even worse for the Italian champions.

They were awful at the back in the first half and could have trailed by more than three goals.

They were marginally better after the break, bringing £75m striker Gonzalo Higuain off the bench, but never looked like mounting a comeback despite Pjanic's late goal.

Juve, chasing a sixth consecutive title, have now lost three Serie A games, as many as they did in 2014-15 and more than in their successful campaigns of 2011-12 and 2013-14.

They are four points above second-placed AC Milan.

It was the first time Juventus had conceded three goals in the first half of a Serie A game since 2004, when they lost 4-3 to Lecce.

Simeone Jr makes the headlines

Simeone, 21, doubled his Serie A goals tally in the opening quarter of an hour.

After arriving in the summer from River Plate, the Madrid-born Argentina Under-20 international had scored twice in his first 10 Serie A games.

And he was the star of Genoa's famous win, scoring from six yards out after Buffon had parried his first effort and then heading their second.

He briefly thought he had a 30-minute hat-trick when he lashed home after Sandro cleared the ball, but the ball had narrowly crossed the line following Luca Rigoni's shot.

Genoa had fewer chances in the second half, but Buffon did deny Simeone a third with a good save.

Juventus 2-1 Napoli Match Highlight (Juve's higuain sinks his old club Napoli)

Jose Callejon had brought the visitors back into the game after Leonardo Bonucci's opener, but the Argentine was on target for a fairytale finish against his old employers.

Gonzalo Higuain scored the winner against former club Napoli as Juventus strengthened their grip at the top of Serie A with a 2-1 win at the Juventus Stadium.

Leonardo Bonucci had given the hosts the lead early in the second half before Jose Callejon swiftly levelled for the visitors, volleying home his seventh league goal of the season from close range.

But on 70 minutes it was Higuain who took centre stage, driving a low shot into the bottom right corner to snap a four-match goal drought and further justify the €90million Juventus paid Napoli to secure his services.

Having shared a pre-match embrace with Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, the Argentine was careful not to celebrate his goal, instead waving away his team-mates and walking back to the centre circle.

MATCH HIGHLIGHT

Massimiliano Allegri's men had crushed Sampdoria in midweek, but they were forced to work far harder to down the third-placed visitors and secure a sixth straight home league win.

Sarri's side had looked capable of ending a run of five successive away defeats against the Turin club, but were ultimately unable to force their way back into the game for a second time.

The first half gradually improved following a decidedly cagey opening, with Stephan Lichtsteiner wasting the home side's first opportunity when he blazed wildly over after Pepe Reina had only managed to parry Alex Sandro's deep cross from the left.

Higuain scored a record 36 Serie A goals for Napoli last season
And five minutes later it was Juventus who threatened again, this time Vlad Chiriches producing a perfectly timed challenge to block Higuain, who had latched on to Sami Khedira's fine ball into the box.

Napoli, whose fans were banned from attending in a bid to keep the peace, also mustered two efforts of note during the opening period, Allan drilling a low shot straight at Gianlugi Buffon from the edge of the box and Faouzi Ghoulam then curling a 25-yard free-kick over the bar.

In contrast to the first half, the second exploded into life almost immediately, with two goals arriving in the opening nine minutes.

The first was claimed by Bonucci, who reacted quickest to Ghoulam's sliced clearance as it looped back into the box and rifled a shot into the roof of the net from 12 yards out.

But Napoli hit back just four minutes later as Callejon timed his run perfectly to meet Lorenzo Insigne's chipped throughball and calmly volley past Buffon.

At that stage, the visitors looked set to claim a valuable point, but ultimately it was to be Higuain and Juventus' night - the striker almost destined to have the final say following his acrimonious Napoli exit.

The only negative for the hosts was the loss of influential defender Giorgio Chiellini, who limped from the fray with what looked like a hamstring injury just before half-time.

Olympique Lyonnais 0-1 Juventus Highlights (Buffon & Cuadrado instrumental to Bianconeri win) #OLJuve

Juan Cuadrado struck a fine winner for 10-men Juventus
It was a battling display from Massimiliano Allegri's men as they managed to come away with three vital points despite having their backs to the wall for the majority of the match

Juan Cuadrado struck a fine winner for 10-men Juventus in Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League win over Lyon after Gianluigi Buffon had pulled off several stunning saves, including a penalty save.

Buffon had made errors in his previous two games for club and country which resulted in goals, but returned to his supreme best at the Parc OL to keep a hard-earned clean sheet.

The 38-year-old spurned Alexandre Lacazette from the penalty spot before producing a reflex save of the highest quality to keep Nabil Fekir's deflected strike out.

Mario Lemina was sent off shortly after that stop to tilt the balance of play firmly in the hosts' favour, but again Buffon stood in their way.

And substitute Cuadrado completed the smash and grab in fitting style, slamming home a mesmeric goal worthy of following his captain's fine earlier example.
UEFA Champions League: Group H Standings
Match Highlights

Victory keeps Massimiliano Allegri's side top of Group H and a win over Lyon at their fortress Juventus Stadium next time out will secure progression to the last 16.

With both sides deploying three-man defences, space to attack was at a premium and chances were similarly sparse.

Gonzalo Higuain had Juve's best opportunity of the opening half, latching onto Alex Sandro's throughball, but Anthony Lopes saved easily as the striker blasted goalwards from an acute angle.

Roared on by ceaseless chanting from their home fans, Lyon picked up the pace and had the chance to move ahead when Leonardo Bonucci hauled down Mouctar Diakhaby as a corner arrived, but Buffon spurned Lacazette from the spot low to his left.

Having survived that scare, Juve should have been ahead themselves at the break, but Lopes produced a stunning save to repel Higuain's firm header before Bonucci nodded wide from six yards with the last touch of the first half.

Buffon once again left Lyon baffled just five minutes after the interval, throwing out his right hand to sensationally repel Fekir as Lyon broke away at pace and another counter-attack led to Lemina hauling down the France international and earning a second yellow card.

Corentin Tolisso was next to be denied as he headed towards goal from inside the six-yard box, but that too was not enough to beat a sprawling Buffon.

And then, Juve struck with 14 minutes to play, Cuadrado tricking his way into the right channel and unleashing a rocket into Lopes' top-left corner as the goalkeeper anticipated a cross.

Fittingly, it was Buffon who had the final say, equal to substitute Maxime Gonalons' powerful effort as any detractors were issued a reminder of the great veteran's enduring brilliance.

Dinamo Zagreb 0-4 Juventus Highlights (Old Lady take top spot with big win)

Massimiliano Allegri's side recorded a comfortable victory in Croatia to climb to the top of Group H

Miralem Pjanic scored one goal and created another as Juventus eased to victory over Group H rivals Dinamo Zagreb to move to the top of their Champions League group.
 ...
As It Stands ...

Midfielder Pjanic only played 45 minutes, yet still played an influential role in helping Massimiliano Allegri's side end a run of four games without a win in the competition that stretched back to November 2015.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international opened the scoring with a delicate volley in the 24th minute before setting up the second for Gonzalo Higuain, who was afforded far too much space by the Zagreb defence.

Match Highlights

Paulo Dybala broke his duck for the season with a left-footed strike in the 57th minute, while a miserable night for the hosts was rounded out by goalkeeper Adrian Semper knocking Dani Alves' deflected free-kick into his own net.

The result was the perfect response for Juventus after a 0-0 draw with Sevilla in their opening European game, particularly with a trip to Lyon up next.

Dinamo's 2016/17 Champions League campaign had begun with a 3-0 loss at Lyon, a result that – along with poor form in domestic action – cost manager Zlatko Kranjcar his job.

Caretaker boss Zeljko Sopic had overseen an upturn in results at home since taking charge, but facing Juventus was easily the toughest fixture of his brief tenure.

Higuain hooked a Alves cross over the bar in the opening minutes as the visitors dominated from the outset, although they needed help from their opponents to break the deadlock.

Leonardo Bonucci's forward pass from the halfway line caused confusion at the heart of the Dinamo defence, resulting in Leonardo Sigali inadvertently heading the ball the wrong way to set up Pjanic's deft finish beyond Semper.

Dinamo came close to getting back on terms immediately, with their first effort at goal seeing defender Gordon Schildenfeld plant a header from a free-kick against the bar.

The disappointment at being denied by the woodwork at one end was compounded by Juventus doubling their lead before the interval.

Having scored the first, Pjanic set up the second with a long pass over the top to Higuain, who controlled the ball on his chest before steering a left-footed volley into the corner of the net.

Although injury cut short Pjanic's match, with Juan Cuadrado replacing him before the second half, Juventus didn't struggle in the absence of the former Roma player.

Any slim hopes of a Dinamo comeback disappeared when Dybala was allowed time and space to take aim from distance, the forward lashing a shot home from outside the area to finally get off the mark.

Marko Pjaca and Mario Mandzukic came off the bench to face their former club but it was a current Dinamo player who was credited with the last goal, teenager Semper failing to keep out an Alves set-piece that had ballooned up off the wall.

Victory sees Juventus take top spot in Group H, sitting ahead of Sevilla on goal difference after two games.

Palermo 0-1 Juventus Match Highlights (Goldaniga own goal gifts visitors win) #PalermoJuve

Massimiliano Allegri's champions picked up all three points in Sicily and were rarely troubled by the hosts who have now lost their first three home games of the season

Juventus consolidated their position at the top of Serie A as an own goal from Edoardo Goldaniga secured a 1-0 win at Palermo.

Mario Mandzukic, Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain had all gone close for Massimiliano Allegri's men before Goldaniga deflected Dani Alves' long-range strike into his own net early in the second half.

Match Highlights

The visitors thus secured a ninth successive league victory over the Sicilian side, who have failed to score a single goal during a run of defeats that dates back to 2011.

Roberto De Zerbi's side did little to suggest that they could build upon their surprise midweek win at Atalanta, rarely troubling a Juventus defence that remained impressively resolute throughout.

The result marked the first time in their history that Palermo have lost their first three home games of the season and leaves them languishing in the lower reaches of the table.

The Turin side, meanwhile, will head into Tuesday's Champions League clash against Dynamo Zagreb in confident mood after a commanding display at the atmospheric Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Juventus wasted no time in making their attacking intentions clear, Higuain firing over after being picked out by Pjanic with just 12 seconds on the clock.

Three yellow cards then followed in quick succession, with Goldaniga and Juventus duo Leonardo Bonucci and Mandzukic all going into the book as the contest became increasingly fractious.

The league leaders continued to look the more likely as the half wore on, with Pjanic their main creative force.

It was his corner that picked out the unmarked Mandzukic who headed wastefully over after 12 minutes and the Bosnian midfielder also supplied the long ball that sent Higuain in on goal, only for home goalkeeper Josip Posavec to snuff out the danger by diving bravely at the striker's feet.

Posavec was again called into action in the 33rd minute, this time palming away Mario Lemina's angled strike, and he was also equal to Pjanic's weakly struck shot on the stroke of half-time.

In contrast to the visitors, Palermo struggled to find any attacking fluency, with Haitam Aleesami driving their only meaningful effort of the first half straight at Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus started the second half as brightly as they had the first and hit the front after 49 minutes, albeit in fortuitous circumstances.

Posavec looked to have Alves' speculative long-range strike well covered until it struck the luckless Goldaniga and flew into the opposite corner of the net.

The hosts struggled to muster much in terms a response to that setback and in fact could have fallen further behind just after the hour-mark when Posavec was forced to tip over a thumping volley from Mandzukic.

And three minutes later the two Croatians went head-to-head again with the same result as Posavec pulled off another fine save to prevent his compatriot from making the game safe for his side.

Palermo did mount some concerted pressure in the final quarter, but failed to seriously trouble Buffon as the visitors secured their fifth league win of the season.

Internazionale 2-1 Juventus Highlights (Inter fight back to beat champions )

Before Ivan Perisic's winning goal, Mauro Icardi was the only player to score in Serie A for Inter Milan this season
Inter Milan came from behind to beat Juventus in an exciting derby d'Italia.

Stephan Lichtsteiner gave the visitors the lead after the break when he tapped home a low cross from Alex Sandro.

However, Mauro Icardi equalised for the hosts just two minutes later with a header from a corner.

Substitute Ivan Perisic headed Inter in front after fine work from Icardi, and Juve - with Gonzalo Higuain on from the bench - could not find an equaliser, despite Ever Banega's late red card.

Serie A Table
The result was only Juve's second Serie A defeat since they lost 1-0 to Sassuolo on 28 October, 2015. The loss means the champions slip to second, behind Napoli, while Inter move up to sixth.

Gonzalo Higuain Double Puts Juventus Top Of Serie A

Gonzalo Higuain has scored three goals in his first three Serie A games for Juventus
Gonzalo Higuain scored two goals in six minutes as defending champions Juventus returned to the top of Serie A with victory over Sassuolo.

Argentina striker Higuain's clinical low shot into the bottom corner set the hosts on their way.

He made it three goals in three league games since joining in July for £75m from Napoli with a volley.

Miralem Pjanic, a £25m signing from Roma, headed home on his debut before Sassuolo's Luca Antei pulled one back.

Juventus, who start their Champions League campaign at home to Sevilla on Wednesday, have taken nine points from their first three league games, while defeat was Sassuolo's first of the season.

Massimiliano Allegri's Juventus are three points clear of Genoa and Sampdoria, both of whom play on Sunday.

Lazio 0-1 Juventus Highlights (Khedira second half strike put Juventus in lead) #LazioJuve

Serie A Table

 Italian Serie A
Juventus 1-0  Lazio
Date: Saturday 27th August
Time: 17:00 uk time
Venue: Stadio Olimpico
LIVE Stream: Not Available, Watch Highlights.

The German midfielder's fine second half finish was enough for the Bianconeri to pick up a second consecutive Serie A win

Sami Khedira's second goal in as many games secured Juventus a 1-0 Serie A triumph at Lazio on Saturday despite new signing Gonzalo Higuain starting on the bench once again.

Despite netting the winning goal in Juve's 2-1 defeat of Fiorentina last time out, the Argentina star was still was not fit enough to start, but that ultimately mattered little, as Khedira scored just a few moments after the striker's 65th-minute introduction.

There was nothing to separate the two sides during a tepid first half in Rome, with the respective defences on top and clear-cut chances rare.

But the second period started with an instant improvement as Juve took the game to their hosts, with Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Khedira all going close in a frenetic four-minute spell.

The German was not to be denied twice, though, as he fired across Federico Marchetti 24 minutes from time to put victory in the visitors' sights.

Watch Highlights of Juventus 1-0 Lazio:

Juve then proceeded to tighten their hold on the match and, while Lazio pressed for a late equaliser, the champions had little trouble keeping them at bay to make it two wins from two.

After only stealing victory late on against Fiorentina last time out, Juve looked intent on putting Lazio under pressure significantly earlier at Stadio Olimpico and went close to breaking the deadlock 10 minutes in.

Alex Sandro charged down Dusan Basta's clearance and the ball dropped kindly for Dybala, whose header forced Marchetti to scramble across his goalline and desperately push it away.

The hosts grew into the match, though, and caused some panic of their own in the Juve defence, as Felipe Anderson's right-wing delivery flashed across the goal and forced Dani Alves into an acrobatic clearance before Ciro Immobile could nod in with 24 minutes gone.

That proved to be an isolated moment of worry for Juve, whereas Marchetti was again forced to clamber 10 minutes later, just about stopping Kwadwo Asamoah's deflected volley from creeping under the crossbar.

Proceedings became more frantic after the break and Juve went close twice in quick succession early on – Mandzukic blasting at Marchetti from 18 yards, before Dybala fired just wide of the right-hand post from the rebound.

Higuain was eventually brought on in the 65th minute and Juve had the lead a minute later.

The goal came from a more unlikely source, though, as Khedira latched on to Dybala's pass into the right side of the area and the German found the bottom-far corner with a smart finish.

Lazio's efforts failed to produce any clear opportunities and, when Marco Parolo's long-range effort was comfortably gobbled up by Gianluigi Buffon five minutes from the end, the hosts' chances of a late comeback were effectively ended.

Gonzalo Higuain: Juventus striker aims to prove value after £75.3m transfer

Gonzalo Higuain scored 36 Serie A goals for Napoli last season

Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has said he wants to prove his value to the club after his £75.3m transfer from Napoli.

Higuain, 28, signed a five-year deal on Tuesday to complete the third most expensive transfer of all time.

The Argentina international said: "Now I need to show to them that I am worth the money they paid for me.

"What can you say about Juventus, they are known all over the world. It is a great team that has it all to gain."

Higuain won the Capocannoniere - Serie A's golden boot - last season after scoring a league record-equalling 36 goals as Napoli finished runners-up to his new club.

His departure angered Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, who called Higuain's exit "a betrayal".

The former Real Madrid forward has defended his decision to join the Bianconeri.

"Relations with him [De Laurentiis] never went well because his way of thinking is at odds with my way of thinking," added Higuain.

"I chose to join Juventus but he pushed me to do it. Now, I'm really happy I did and I want to thank Juventus for the effort they made to come and get me."
