Story: Christian rapper declined Dr. Dre role in ‘Straight Outta Compton’ movie

Someone who helped make Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the legendary hip-hop group N.W.A. that released on Aug. 14, wanted to cast Christian rapper T'Juan as Dr. Dre, but the artist told Rapzilla.com that he refused after seeing the script.

“I didn’t feel a peace about it,” T'Juan said. “I was flattered, but … I don’t think the role would’ve been a good fit for me in this season."

T’Juan, who is also a youth pastor at Wayman Chapel AME Church in Jacksonville, Fla., has previously acted on the casts for a pilot of a local Houston network TV sitcom called As for Me & My House.

Deadline reported that Straight Outta Compton is expected to make $55-60 million this weekend, but T'Juan said he has no regrets.

“I’m sure it probably would’ve benefited me temporarily and personally, but I know my purpose is much bigger than me, therefore I’m at peace with my position and my decision.”
