Beckah Shae surprised her fans Monday with a brand-new single and music video that hints at a new direction for the independent pop artist.
Fresh off the viral success of her family’s Meghan Trainor-inspired pregnancy announcement, Shae’s new single, “I’ll Be Alright,” carries a similar musical flair to the “Lips Are Moving” singer. A ‘60s hairdo accompanies the singer’s retro-pop head-nodder.
In posts on social media, Shae said the new song is the first single from her as-of-yet untitled new album, coming in 2016.
The music video features Shae singing into an old-style microphone in front of various colored backgrounds. The happy number also includes a trio of backup singers who are, thanks to camera tricks, all Beckah Shaes.
Although upbeat and cheery in sound, the song’s lyrical content is actually much more serious, declaring God’s care of His people even in the midst of dangerous times.
Fans have responded overwhelmingly favorable to the new song and video, and likened the new stylistic direction to the aforementioned Trainor and Fergie (from The Black Eyed Peas), but most of all they recognized the ‘60s-era influence.
